Transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points to travel partners is one of the best ways to maximize the value of your points. While you can use the Chase travel portal to redeem points, transferring them to one of Chase’s 14 loyalty program partners, including 11 airlines, typically yields the best returns.

Whether you’re aiming to book a comfortable flight in business class or a last-minute ticket when prices have skyrocketed, understanding how to transfer your points is essential for getting the most out of your Chase Ultimate Rewards.

How much are Chase points worth?

When considering how much points are worth, it’s useful to think of them as another form of currency, though, unlike traditional currencies, there is no official exchange rate for points currencies. The reason is because the value you can get from them can vary considerably depending on how you use them.

That said, most will say you should be able to get 1.7-2 cents of value from each Chase Ultimate Rewards point. For example, let’s say you’re planning to transfer 45,000 Chase points to Air Canada Aeroplan to book Emirates business class from New York City to Milan. If you value your Chase points at two cents each, then the points you’re transferring are worth at least $900. If you’re getting at least $900 in value from the redemption, then transferring points makes sense. If you were only getting $200 in value, it would not be a good redemption.

Of course, you should factor in the cash co-pay for taxes and fees into your equation along with the opportunity cost of miles and status credits you’d earn by paying cash. You’d also want to factor in any current transfer bonuses if any are available.

How to transfer Chase points to travel partners

Since transferring points to travel partners can often present the best opportunity to maximize value from points, it’s important to know how to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to partner loyalty programs. Let’s walk through the steps.

Step 1: Log into the Chase travel portal

The first step to transferring your Chase Ultimate Rewards points is to log into your Chase account and navigate to the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal. Once you’re in the portal, you’ll find a dashboard showing how many points you have, an account history, and information about various redemption options.

Step 2: Go to the transfer portal

From your Ultimate Rewards dashboard, go to the points transfer portal. You’ll find this by selecting the “Travel” dropdown menu and tapping “transfer points to partners.”

selecting "transfer points to partners"

You’ll then be taken to the transfer portal, which lists all of Chase’s transfer partners.

Step 3: Transfer your points

It’s a good idea to link your partner accounts to Chase ahead of time, although you should be able to do this quickly when you’re ready to make the transfer.

Linking a new account or transferring points requires the same steps. Select the relevant partner and scroll down for information about how long a transfer will take and other program details. To continue linking the account or to transfer points, click the “transfer points” button.

If your loyalty account is not linked to Ultimate Rewards, you’ll be prompted to enter your partner loyalty program account number. Simply provide the required information, click “Next,” and voilà—your accounts are linked.

When your loyalty program is linked to your Chase account, you’ll be directed to a page showing your account number and prompted to confirm the details.

Once you’ve confirmed your partner account details, you’ll be prompted to enter the number of points you want to transfer.

Then, you’ll be asked to confirm the details, including the account you are sending points to, the number of points, and some terms. When you’re ready, hit “submit,” and your points will be on their way.

Once you click “submit,” your points should be on their way.

Note that Chase estimates that most point transfers happen within a day, but they can take up to 7 business days. For most programs, points transfer instantly. Singapore Krisflyer and Marriott Bonvoys transfers are the exception. Transfers to Krisflyer can take up to two days, while Bonvoy transfers can take up to seven.

Additionally, first-time transfers or transfers to new loyalty accounts can take longer.

It’s good to keep in mind that transfers could be held up and take longer than expected.

In my case, I received an email confirming that my points transfer request to Aeroplan had been submitted within seconds, and the points were transferred to my account a couple of minutes later.

How to transfer Chase points to United Airlines

You can transfer Chase points to United Airlines through the transfer portal within your Ultimate Rewards dashboard by following the steps outlined above. As with other Chase partners, you’ll need to make sure that your MileagePlus account name matches the Chase account exactly. You can transfer points in increments of 1,000 with a transfer ratio of 1:1.

How to transfer Chase points to British Airways Executive Club

You can transfer Chase points to the British Airways Executive Club from the transfer portal within your Ultimate Rewards dashboard by following the steps outlined above. As with other Chase partners, you’ll need to make sure that your Executive Club account name matches the Chase account exactly. Points can be transferred to Avios in 1,000-point increments.

How to transfer Chase points to JetBlue TrueBlue

JetBlue TrueBlue is another transfer partner for Chase Ultimate Rewards. To move your Chase points to JetBlue, go to the transfer points portal within your Chase online account and follow the steps above. Make sure your account name is exactly the same on both profiles. Points can be transferred in 1,000-point increments.

Before transferring Chase points to JetBlue, you’ll want to ensure you’re getting good value. JetBlue doesn’t utilize an award chart on its own flights and price awards dynamically based on the cash price of tickets.

This means you’ll often be better off booking JetBlue flights through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal. Points are worth 1.25 cents each if you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and 1.5 cents each with a Sapphire Reserve.

However, a transfer to JetBlue might be a good idea if you’re aiming to book a partner TrueBlue redemption on Qatar Airways or Hawaiian Airlines.

How to transfer Chase points to American Airlines

Unfortunately, American Airlines is not a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner. If you have a flight on American Airlines in mind, you might be able to book it using one of Chase’s Oneworld transfer partners. For example, you can make a partner booking with the British Airways Executive Club on American Airlines. You can also redeem your points for American Airlines flights through the Chase travel portal, although the value of your points varies depending on what cards you hold depending on what Chase credit cards you hold.

How to transfer Chase points to Alaska Airlines

Unfortunately, Alaska Airlines is not a transfer partner from Chase Ultimate Rewards. As with American, you might be able to book an Alaska Airlines flight using British Airways Avios, Iberia Plus Avios, or Singapore Krisflyer. British Airways Executive Club is a Oneworld airline like Alaska and a 1:1 Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner.

Singapore Krisflyer is a non-alliance partner of the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program and offers flights as low as 8,500 miles each way.

If you’re looking to book a flight on Alaska Airlines or any other airline, point.me’s award search engine can help you find out which partner offers the best redemption with the points you already have. Simply conduct an award search, and point.me will tell you which Chase transfer partner can help you book your flight.

How to transfer Chase points to Delta Air Lines

Unfortunately, Chase and Delta Air Lines are not partners, so you cannot transfer Ultimate Rewards to Delta. If you have your eye on a Delta Air Lines redemption, you might be able to book it with one of Chase’s other partners like Air France–KLM Flying Blue or Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. Otherwise, if you have access to American Express points, you can transfer your Membership Rewards to Delta to redeem.

The best Chase transfer partners

Air Canada Aeroplan

Air Canada Aeroplan is one of the most versatile frequent flyer programs and offers more redemption partners than any other airline. A big advantage of Aeroplan is its ability to add stopovers to awards for just 5,000 points one-way.

If you have the Aeroplan® Card, you can receive a 10% bonus when you transfer 50,000 or more Ultimate Rewards points in one transaction, up to a maximum of 25,000 bonus points per calendar year.

Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer

Singapore Airlines is another great transfer option for Chase points. The KrisFlyer program offers good value, especially for business-class redemptions. For example, it’s possible to book United transcontinental business class from Newark (EWR) to Los Angeles (LAX) for just 26,000 miles using KrisFlyer.

They’re also great value for redemptions on Singapore Airlines, known for its luxurious Suites class.

A standout feature of KrisFlyer is its monthly Spontaneous Escapes program, which offers deep discounts on select award flights.

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

Virgin Atlantic’s frequent flyer program may not be the most well-known, but the Sky Team member offers great value for partner redemptions. Flying Club points generally aren’t the best for Virgin Atlantic award flights since you’ll be hit with the UK’s high passenger taxes.

Instead, redeem them on partners. For example, All Nippon Airways premium cabins can be booked for 52,500-60,000 points one-way in business class or 72,500-85,000 points one-way in first class between the continental United States and Japan. Find out more about booking flights with Virgin Atlantic miles here.

British Airways Executive Club and Iberia Plus

If you’re looking to book flights on a Oneworld airline with Chase points, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with Avios. Chase is a transfer partner of British Airways Executive Club, Iberia Plus, and Aer Lingus AerClub. All three programs use the Avios loyalty currency, along with Qatar Airways and Finnair. Avios can be transferred between programs freely and can offer excellent value.

Qatar Airways is a top choice for transatlantic business class and redemptions from the United States to Doha, starting at 70,000 Avios. For transpacific travel, Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines (JAL) offer excellent redemption options for Asia travel using Avios, offering competitive rates for both long-haul and short-haul flights.

Check out our article on partners you can book with British Airways for more details and other ways to redeem British Airways points for maximum value.

Tips for transferring Chase points to travel partners

When you’re transferring Ultimate Rewards points, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

  • Make sure that the redemption you’re planning makes sense and offers you a value per point you’re comfortable with compared to other options.
  • Before transferring points, you’ll want to make sure that the name on the partner loyalty account matches the name on your Chase account (or an authorized user).
  • The partner loyalty account must be your account or in the name of an authorized user on your Chase account.
  • All transfers are final. You cannot undo a transfer once points have been sent to a partner loyalty program. Make sure you’ve confirmed your plans and award availability before you submit.

How to transfer Chase points between cards

To transfer or “combine” Chase Ultimate Rewards points between your own accounts, you’ll first need to ensure all the cards are linked to the same Chase account. If you haven’t created an online account, set one up at Chase.com and make sure all of your cards are linked with it.

Once you have online access, log in and navigate to the Ultimate Rewards card you want to transfer points from. Click “redeem” next to your points balance, then select “rewards details” followed by “combine points” in the Ultimate Rewards portal.

Here, you can choose the accounts you want to transfer points between (from and to). You can then specify the exact number of points to move. There is no minimum or multiple of 1,000 points required.

After reviewing the details, submit the transfer request. The transfer will be processed instantly, and your new points balance will be reflected in the account.

When to transfer Chase points between cards

There are a few instances where it makes sense to transfer Chase points between accounts you control. Beyond consolidating miles for redemptions, you might do this to convert cashback to points into an account with better redemption values or if you’re closing an account.

Transferring to turn cashback into points or to get a better redemption value

You might want to transfer points between Chase cards if you have a card with better redemption values. For instance, if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Chase Freedom Unlimited, transferring points from the latter to the former can be beneficial. That’s because the Chase Sapphire Reserve offers a higher point value (1.5 cents per point) when redeeming through Chase’s travel portal. Additionally, points in your Chase Sapphire Reserve account can be transferred to airline and hotel partners, while those from Chase Freedom Unlimited cannot.

Transferring points before closing an account

Another time it would make sense to transfer points is if you’re planning to close one of your Chase cards. Once you close an account, the Ultimate Rewards points in the closed account will be forfeited. Transferring those points to another active account will allow you to hold onto your hard-earned points.

How to transfer Ultimate Rewards points to another person

While you can combine your Chase Ultimate Rewards points within your own accounts, you can also transfer them to another person’s account. However, there are specific conditions: the recipient must be a member of your household or an owner of the business for Chase Ink cards.

The initial transfer requires that you call Chase using the number on the back of your card. After this, your household member’s account should be eligible for future online transfers. The process is similar to transferring points within your own accounts: choose the number of points to transfer, review the details, and submit the request.

You can also transfer points to a loyalty account for an authorized user. Simply add their loyalty account information and transfer the points following the same steps as when transferring to one of your accounts.

Frequently asked questions about transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points

Should you transfer Chase points to a partner or redeem them through Chase’s portal?

When utilizing your Chase Ultimate Rewards points, transferring them to a travel partner is usually the path to getting the best value. But, depending on your goals, it’s possible that you’ll get more value by booking through the portal.

When booking through the Chase travel portal, you can redeem points for flights and hotels at the following values depending on the card associated with your account:

  • Chase Freedom Unlimited®️ or Chase Freedom Flex® Credit Card  1 cent per point
  • Chase Sapphire Preferred® credit card: 1.25 cents per point
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve® Credit Card: 1.5 cents per point
  • Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card: 1.25 cents per point

In comparison, transferring your Chase points to travel partners can sometimes lead to outsized value. For example, if you transfer your points to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer and redeem them for business class seats to Asia, it’s possible to get 3-5 cents per point in value.

Other transfer partners, including Virgin Atlantic, United MileagePlus, and World of Hyatt also have sweet spots that can significantly stretch the value of your points.

However, using the travel portal might be a simpler and more convenient option. If ease of use is your priority, the portal might be a good choice. It’s also important to factor in that you’ll earn credit towards airline elite status, frequent flyer miles, and credit card points on a cash booking, which you won’t earn if you book with airline miles.

Before booking travel through the Chase portal, check the cash price and calculate how much value you’re getting per point. You can do this by dividing the cash price of the ticket by the number of points required.

How long does it take to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to a travel partner?

In general, points transfers from Chase are instant, but there are a few notable exceptions.

Transfers to Singapore KrisFlyer can take longer but usually are completed within a day, although they can drag out up to seven days. It can also take up to two days to complete a transfer to Marriott Bonvoy.

Can you transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to someone else?

Yes, but only in limited circumstances. To transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to another person’s account, the recipient must be a member of your household and an authorized user on your account or an owner of the business if you have a Chase Ink card.

The first transfer requires a phone call to Chase using the number on the back of your card. Afterward, your household member’s account should be eligible for future online transfers. The process is similar to transferring points within your own accounts: choose the number of points to transfer, review the details, and submit the request.

Can you transfer points back to Chase once you have transferred them to a partner?

No, all points transfers are final. Before you transfer Chase points to a partner, you’ll want to confirm award availability. Otherwise, you risk losing the flexibility of having transferable points by having them stuck in a program that might not offer the best redemption.

You’ll specifically want to look out for phantom space, when airlines display partner awards that are not actually available. It’s always a good idea to call and confirm the space is actually available or cross-reference the availability between multiple programs. Not all partner awards are searchable online.

Which cards earn transferable Chase Ultimate Rewards points?

Chase currently accepts applications for three cards that earn Chase Ultimate Rewards:

  • Chase Sapphire Preferred
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve
  • Chase Ink Business Preferred

The Chase Freedom Flex, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Ink Business Cash, and Ink Business Unlimited cards are all marketed as cashback cards. However, the cashback earned can be converted into Chase Ultimate Rewards points when paired with a premium card like the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Sapphire Preferred Card.
