In early 2025, the point.me engineering team came together to craft our team values.

These are meant to serve as more than just guiding principles: they reflect who we are, what we strive for, and how we deliver meaningful change to our users. These values act as motivational tools, leading our team to tackle challenges with intention and energy. They also provide a framework for decision-making, creating clear alignment in a fast-paced, lean environment.

These values connect engineers to our company’s mission and objectives, bridging the gap between individual contributions and collective impact. They also offer a glimpse into the culture we’ve fostered here — a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement that drives us to grow as individuals and as a team.

Collaboration drives product excellence

Strong collaboration propels us forward. We share what we know, ask questions, and empower each other to do our best work, whether it’s through a lunch-and-learn, a Slack thread, or pairing. We’re always ready to help, hop on a huddle, or answer questions. We embrace other opinions and ideas and are humble enough to admit when they are the right solution for the problem. No egos, no siloes, no hero culture.

We are one team: We collaborate with other functions early and often. The best ideas emerge when engineering, design, data, and product collaborate closely together. Engineering shapes the “what” as much as the “how.” We provide all functions with clarity on how our processes work to enable the business and to make other teams highly aware of the work we are doing and the value it provides.

Trust and transparency

Trust is the foundation of high-performing teams. By sharing openly, always working with the best intent, and providing the information needed to deliver quickly, we create an environment where everyone can thrive. Transparency allows us to constantly learn, reflect, and improve, while trust empowers us to move fast and collaborate effectively. Together, we build a culture where honesty, accountability, and growth are at the core of everything we do.

Bias towards action

In a fast-moving startup, progress beats perfection. Momentum matters, and when in doubt, we pick a solution and move forward. Waiting for the perfect answer (which often does not exist) slows us down — what’s important is to take action, learn, and adjust as needed.

We always focus on people and goals first. What’s most important is that we’re aligned on what we’re trying to achieve. We’re never afraid to scrap processes or structures that hinder us or slow us down.

We move fast, we learn fast, and we get better with every step.

Iterate and evolve

We focus on small, tightly scoped changes rather than big-bang releases, allowing us to test, measure, and ensure we’re heading in the right direction. This flexibility helps us provide meaningful value to our customers and quickly respond to new information that may come our way.

We won’t get every hypothesis perfect the first time, and we are okay with this. By understanding how our users respond to change and rapidly applying those insights, we continuously improve and make each iteration stronger than the last.

We prioritize simple, practical solutions first, knowing that iteration is key to long-term success and small changes compound over time. Every experiment, whether it succeeds or fails, provides valuable insights that propel us forward.

Disagree and commit

We believe healthy debate fosters better decisions. When we disagree, we offer concrete alternatives rather than pointing out issues. Once a decision is made, we align fully and move forward together. This shared commitment allows for progress and momentum, even when individual preferences differ. By valuing both open discussion and unified action, we build trust, respect, and a culture where everyone feels heard while working together to achieve our goals.

Critical thinking in action

We take ownership by proactively seeking out opportunities to make progress or provide support where it’s needed. Critical thinking drives each and every one of us, so we ask thoughtful questions to fully understand the objectives and purpose behind our work. We’re not afraid to challenge assumptions or suggest faster, smarter ways to achieve our goals. We act with initiative and confidence, figuring out what needs to be done — and making it happen.

We celebrate our successes, big and small. When things don’t go the way we expect, we reflect on them as a team. We treat failures as opportunities to grow and as steps toward a better point.me.

Looking forward

These engineering values were thoughtfully crafted in January 2025. They reflect who we are today and what we strive to be as a team. Ultimately, these values act as a reminder of our commitment to continuous improvement, collaboration, and delivering meaningful impact to our users: Just as we encourage iteration and growth in our work, we expect these values to evolve as the needs of our business change and our team continues to grow.
